Emotional Intelligence & Personality

Emotional Intelligence
& Personality

"If we liken the mind to a high-performance engine, then emotional intelligence would be the oil that enables us to maintain and manage ourselves to perform to our full potential."
The business evidence is clear; taking emotion out of work does not increase employee engagement, drive customer satisfaction or build high performance – managing emotion effectively does. Science has shown that feeling precedes thought and behaviour, so businesses high in Emotional Intelligence benefit from more engaged employees and leaders, staff who are more able to adapt and cope with change, better team working, collaboration and innovation.

Alison is increasingly being asked to work with leaders and teams to enhance their individual and collective Emotional Intelligence. She is one of a unique group of Australasia qualified practitioners in the JCA Global Emotional Intelligence profile (EIP) and has access to a specialised suite of tools that enable leaders to learn and grow their EI.

The Emotional Intelligence Profile is a scientifically validated and industry recognised self-assessment questionnaire that has been shown to improve individual, team and organisational performance.

So what is the EIP?

The JCA EIP is totally unique in that it identifies a leader’s core attitudes of self regard and regard for others, a measure in no other EI tool on the market. It enables us to unlock potential and enable sustainable change by identifying the underlying attitudes that underpin an individual’s thinking and feeling, which then drives their behaviour.

This is shown in this diagram to the right, showing JCA Global’s unique EI model.

Emotional Intelligence Framework
Emotional Intelligence is how a leader manages their personality to be both personally and interpersonally effective.
Personal intelligence includes aspects such as knowing what you want, motivating yourself to achieve goals, dealing with challenges and setbacks, maintaining physical and emotional well-being, improving your work-life balance, feeling confident in your decisions and actions, having clarity of thinking and adapting to new situations.

You have to understand and be in control of these aspects before you can develop your interpersonal intelligence. This includes knowing what others want, leading and managing others, helping motivate others, building trusting relationships, team working, coaching people and managing confrontation constructively.

Personality Solutions

Personality + Emotional Intelligence = Performance

Alison became an accredited practitioner in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) in the UK in 1997 and has been using it ever since to help teams be more effective. It gives teams and leaders a common language to understand their preference and behaviour choices as well as the importance of valuing diversity.

Alison enables people to relate their personality to their behaviours at work with specific insights into communication style, problem solving, agility with change and behaviours under stress. MBTI is very powerful for developing high performing teams.

MBTI can be used separately or in conjunction with the EIP depending on your needs.
Alison can provide feedback either individually or as a team in a full or half day MBTI workshop. Sessions are highly interactive and engaging with people often walking away with new and life changing insights about how who they are both at work and at home.

Alison has access to a range of MBTI reports and resources to support your individual and team needs. Take a look at the CPP Asia Pacific website or call Alison to find out more.

"In my new role as Head of People & Culture at BDO Alison has been engaged as an external coach. In a recent role Alison was engaged on a larger scale project to provide group and individual coaching in Emotional Intelligence with a specific focus on dysfunctional teams. As a growing Global company the requirement of our Managers was to be more able to adapt and cope with change, collaborate and innovate. The spinoffs of increased employee engagement and customer satisfaction were high on our list of outcomes.

Alison presented in a frank and encouraging manner that fully engaged the team and allowed for open discussion. The assessment process including the comprehensive feedback provided to each member of the team was both smooth and enlightening. Alison then worked with selected coaches in the development of individual personal awareness. Alison’s individual coaching of  members of the team allowed for noticeable increased personal growth and confidence.

The development of a greater self awareness for individuals to identify and further develop is always a key driver for Alison. Alison is a great confidante and leveller - placing the required perspective on events and environments that may distract or erode both personal and professional confidence. Feedback from the team’s I have engaged Alison to work with is consistently of the highest level."

BDO
I recently attended a series of  Emotional Intelligence and MBTI workshops conducted by Alison. At the time our company was going through a major restructure that required a totally cohesive team for effective implementation

Alison’s all-inclusive, natural approach resulted in very open, frank discussions. We learnt a lot about each other and certainly became a close knit team with a common purpose and common voice.

Turning a group of individuals, with vastly differing personalities, into an effective management team requires a special skill. Alison certainly has that skill and I have no hesitation in recommending her to those that, not only wish to get to know themselves better, but also wish to understand the personalities and working style of colleagues, friends and family.
